| I've offically decided that I want to get my first tattoo. I've gotten some reccomendations of places to go and once I get my idea set in stone, I'm going to visit them and see their prices, the place, and see what they think they can do with the design.
I thought first though I'd ask your guys opinion on what you think. Be fare warned I drew this looking down with a pen as a quick idea sketch. It'd only be on the ride of my hip with the hill extended a bit further outward. I have this done on paper in which it looks much better.

| Hi there. =]
Long time lurker, first time bla bla.
Anyway, I'm 17 but I turn 18 in April and I want to start saving up money and finding a place to get my first tattoo done, so I'm asking now.
I've wanted to get a phoenix on my left side for a while now, going on 3 years. I like the whole rebirth thing, since I had a pretty fucked up childhood and am just now getting over an eating disorder, so I want to get it as like an affirmation of things getting better or w/e.
I want it either along my side from under-boob curving down ribs onto my hip a little in the front, or from hip curving up my side onto the left shoulder blade.
I'm not really into alot of the phoenixes I see, I like the more peacock-ish ones, rather than that bird-of-prey look.

I want it in color, of course, from yellow-orange-red-purple-a little blue.
But I loooooooooove purple, so I want alot of that, more than there is there.
I don't like the eyes on this pic, tho, I want them alot larger, more animated and pretty.
And I'm thinking of having random cherry blossoms around it.
And more flames dripping off, rather than the ribbony yellow-orange things there are, to make it more phoenix-y.
So, suggestions/comments?
I know it's huge for a first tattoo, but I'd rather get the one I KNOW I want than one I'm not so sure of.
Any idea how much this would cost me, or any good shops around the Orlando, FL area? (I'm not going to Miami lol).

Oh, side note- I'm probably gonna get an Alice in Wonderland thing after that, maybe on the right side, since my name's Alice and all that. I'm thinking cards, Alice, chesire cat, some teacups, etc. Anyone have suggestions for that too? =]

| Can I see pictures of the tattoos you have gotten to honor your girlfriends, boyfriends, husbands, wives, etc.?
I am getting my hubby's name in Hebrew - I think behind my ear. And my husband would like to get a tattoo in honor of me as well. I am a tattoo addict, he on the other hand is a blank canvas. He doesn't want to get something large or text. He wants to get something that represents me. | I am planning on getting this text tattooed soon and I’m going to meet with my artist to decide the perfect font. The trouble I’m having is with placement. I’d like to get it somewhere I can show off and cover easily. Problem is when I get out of school there is a good chance I will be working in a conservative agency and if I have to wear a uniform it will be short sleeves and long-ish shorts for working outside. So forearm and calf (which would be ideal) are no-go. I already have the area on my back below my neck tattooed.
So I was thinking the outside of my upper-mid right thigh. I highlighted the area in this picture (the only one in my photobucket with my leg in it). A little below where shorter shorts would end so when wearing long shorts it would be covered. I’m 5’8” and weigh 175 and carry most of the extra weight in my belly/boobs/hips/thighs but on the outside of my thigh the skin is pretty smooth (no dimples or anything).
How do you think the text would do there? Does anyone have or know someone who has text in this area? How do you think it will survive over time?
Any other thoughts or placement ideas?

| My best friend passed away about 6 months ago and I've decided to get a tattoo to sort of symbolize the time in my life right before she passed since, obviously, a lot has changed and will continue to change. All my life I've been intrigued by the footprints in the sand bible story and have always dreamed of getting a tattoo of footprints. After my best friend passed I took the story even more to heart and began to find more and more friendship quotes having to do with people leaving footprints on your heart and whatnot. I finally decided on getting four footprints for me and my 3 friends that were all best friends at the time of her passing, I know friendship tattoos are a bad idea so it symbolizes a lot more than just the 4 of us, but that's the basic premise. I wanted the 4 footprints walking up my spine but I think that perhaps the right, left, right, left motion would look funny just by its loansome. I'm now debating on doing some sort of text to make it more blocky to go down my spine...

| The last few post have had some varied responses. A member came here, posted her tattoos, and we as a community bashed her. Not because they were poorly done, but because they were "cutesy". Really now? She's since then taken them down, but I didn't see hardly anything knocking the technique.
We are all individual people here. Not everyone is going to get into the hardcore, blood, guts bones detailed stuff.. Some of us like tribal, some like medical, some do undead, and yet others like the simplistic things.
I was very disappointed to see the amount of people that just bashed on her tattoos because the genre wasn't to their liking. I'm not asking you all to reign it in and be all nice all the time, but keep it to the technique and the quality, *NOT* the genre of the actual tattoo. | | comments: 21 comments or Leave a comment |

Got these two done at Anarchy & Ink Tattoo in Cathedral City, California, last night. It was pretty random, and still didn't know what I wanted when I got there. The birdcage I did a rough sketch of and the artist redid more of less symbolizes being "free spirited", and then the key is an exact replica of a key I wear around my neck all the time. ;) Also could be the key that opened the birdcage. Whichever. ;)
